Print FAQs

What is Document Solutions?

Document Solutions is the industry term for the output (printing) and input (scanning) of documentation.

What is the difference between printers and multifunction devices?

Printers do only one thing - print.

Multifunction devices have multiple functions - print, copy, scan and fax*

*As faxes are not as common than they once were, fax units are often optional so be sure to check before buying.

What brands of printers does Evolve service?

Evolve Equipment Management are authorised service and agents for Kyocera, Brother, Epson and Oki.

Although we primarily work on Kyocera, Brother and Epson and OKI devices, we are able assess a wide range of brands and products as our technicians have had training on many other office equipment products.

Please feel free to contact us to find out more information and if we can’t help, then we’ll be sure to point you in the right direction.

What does PPM mean?

PPM is the industry acronym for pages per minute. PPM refers to the print speed of a printer or multifunction device. Print speeds can vary between devices, anywhere from 20ppm up to 90ppm.

What is the difference between inkjet and laser printers?

Inkjet printers use a system where tiny droplets of liquid ink are sprayed onto the paper. These droplets form the characters or images being printed.

Laser printers use a different process. A laser beam is used to form an electrostatic image on a revolving drum. Toner, a powdered ink, is attracted to the charged areas on the drum and is then transferred and fused onto the paper using heat.

There are pros and cons to both from print quality, print speed, cost of ownership and media versatility.

Why should I use genuine cartridges?

1 / For optimum performance we recommend genuine printer toner, which is specially designed for your device. Toner particles of the incorrect size can lead to poor print quality with streaky grey background or ghosting on the page.

2 / Manufacturers of cheap ‘compatible’ cartridges do not participate in any environmental schemes in Australia. All their cartridges go to landfill and our planet is paying a price so please support our participating Brands and buy original cartridges only.

Is my printer in warranty?

Kyocera warranty is 2 years return to base. However there are certain models that do include on-site warranty, please contact us to confirm.

Brother and Epson devices normally come with 1 year return to base warranty. You will need to bring the device to us to repair.

If you purchased the device from Evolve, we will be able to let you know if the machine is under warranty. Contact us and quote your machine number. If you don't know how to find your machine number click here. If you purchased your device elsewhere, we will need a copy of the proof of purchase to confirm the purchase date and send away to the manufacturer to claim warranty.

How do I find my printer driver?

Colours on page are faded or not the right colour

Steps to follow on a Kyocera device:

System Menu > Adjustment/Maintenance and select an option as per below.

  • Laser scanner clean – This will get rid of any dirt/toner on the laser glass
  • Calibration – This brings the colours into alignment
  • Registration > Auto – This process will print out a page with coloured squares on it. Once printed, put the page on the glass face down and press start. The scanner will scan the page and should say completed. If a message says “Cannot Perform” please check the page is correctly placed on the glass as per instructions on the screen.
  • Toner Curve Adjustment – Like the registration process, the machine will print out 3 or 4 pages depending on the model. After each page is printed, place the paper face down on the glass and press start. The machine will then scan each page and print out the next until the process is complete.
  • Calibration – Perform this process once all the steps above are completed to lock in the new settings.

The process above, if completed correctly, should solve your print issues.

My computer does not turn on, what do I do now?

First check the computer's power cord to make sure it is completely plugged into the wall socket. If you are using a plug strip, make sure it is completely plugged into the wall socket and that the power switch on the plug strip is turned on.

Some plug strips also have a built-in circuit breaker which usually looks like a black or red button near the power switch. Press the button to reset it and see if that solves the problem.

Alternatively try powering it from a different power point to eliminate the possibility of a tripped circuit or faulty outlet.

My internet is not working

It is not uncommon for a modem or network router to encounter problems that prevent one or more devices from connecting to the network. To help verify this is not the problem, disconnect the power from the back of the modem and router. Once disconnected, wait 10-15 seconds and then reconnect the power. Wait several minutes for the modem and router to reconnect to the Internet, then test the Internet connection on your computer.

If you are still experiencing issues, please contact on 07 4080 2000.

Why do emails go to Spam/Junk/Quarantine?

One of the big reasons that it is getting harder to avoid emails going to spam is that spam filtering has become more rigorous.

Webmail providers are simply cracking down harder on spam emails. However, the filters aren’t 100% accurate, so sometimes legitimate emails caught in spam too.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-Factor Authentication, also known as MFA requires users to verify their identity through multiple methods before gaining access to a system, application, or account. The primary purpose of MFA is to add an extra layer of protection beyond a username and password. Typically, MFA involves using two or more of the following authentication factors:

  1. Something You Know: This is usually a password or PIN, which is a piece of information that the user knows.
  2. Something You Have: This can be a physical device, such as a smartphone, security token, or smart card, that the user possesses.
  3. Something You Are: This involves biometric data, such as fingerprints, retina scans, or facial recognition, which identifies the user based on unique physical or behavioral traits.

By combining multiple factors, MFA enhances security, reduces the risk of unauthorised access and enhances overall cybersecurity.
